You're a bit early, ma'am

On Friday night, 9 days after my IUI, I noticed a little spotting.  "Aha, the elusive implantation spotting", I thought to myself.  But by saturday morning, the spotting had picked up and AF showed up in full force later that evening.  That means I had a 21 day cycle this month.

I want to thank everyone who commented on my last post, it's been truly helpful to me as I decide where to go from here.  The 21 day cycle has me really concerned.  As nice as this new doctor is, infertility is not his specialty.  He scheduled my progesterone test for a full week after the IUI, which seems a bit late to me.  So now I'm crawling back to the fancy clinic with my tail between my legs.  Even though it felt like I was on a conveyor belt there at times, I realize that 9 failed attempts means that I really need the services they offer.

The big issue with going back to the fancy clinic is that we won't be able to use the sperm bank that has ID release at 3 months.  It's been very hard to give that up, and I've spent a good part of the weekend feeling guilty.  On the flip side, it has been exciting to look at new donors.  I always feel a renewed sense of hope when I change things up.  Still, it's getting harder and harder to muster up that hope.  9 failures is a lot.  I don't know of anyone who has had 9 failures and still managed to get a BFP without switching to IVF.  There is absolutely no way I can afford IVF.  We can't switch carriers and try to get Elizabeth pregnant at this point because she's on the academic job market.  Nobody wants to hire a pregnant professor.  I am hoping beyond hope that changing donors and a little help from the clinic will be just the thing we need to get a BFP.

We got our BFP on Try #9 so I don't think getting one on Try #10 is unreasonable. I truly believe what did it for us was moving to an RE. As much as I liked our regular OB who was doing our IUIs I just felt like being under the care of someone who specialized in fertility made the difference.

Sounds like you're making the right call by going back to the fertility center. I'm with you on feeling like you're on a conveyor belt, but they are the experts. Best of luck to you. I love your new header, btw.

I'm so sorry AF showed up...uninvited!! I hope the changes bring you that BFP too.

Yikes!

I hope that the combination of the donor switch and the move back to the fancy clinic will be the magic you need. The ID release at 3 months thing... that's amazing... I wish you could have both somehow! But, the most important thing is that you become MOMS.

As to the 10 IUI question... it took me until number 10 to get a keeper, if you will. You can do it!!!

Hey there. Your doc is actually right about bringing you in to check your progesterone a week after IUI. You progesterone peaks about 7DPO so that's when you want to test it.

Have you considered going to a medical endocrinologist for a full work up? They can catch things that even fancy RE's don't catch. If your insurance covers it I would do it. I went to the endo Puffer recommended and I think that it made a difference for both of us.

Good luck! I'm really pulling for you ladies.

What a horribly rude guest to show up like that! I think that switching donors is exactly the right thing to do. With a lot of the banks you can call them up and ask them directly who has a great sperm count and a proven track record of getting women pregnant. Then you know you're going into #10 with super star spermies. Good luck, we're thinking good thoughts for you here.

gr: first of all, the 21 day bleed is awful. what a fucking mind game. i would have thought it was implantation bleeding, too.

as for your new plan, i am into it. just keep moving forward and doing what feels right. this is going to work. we're hoping this works great. lucky #10 here you come.

I am sorry that AF came...and way too damn early. And right on the heels of what seemed like could have been implantation spotting. Damn! By what I have read, that the move back to the fertility clinic has been a hard decision, but I hope that you get the that BFP soon.

I randomly had a 21 day cycle this month, too! What up? I have no advice, just wanted to add to the Good Luck wishes. Also, my doc said progesterone test on 7dpo, too.

What's up with that shorty cycle? That sucks.

I got my BFP on try #10. I am hopeful that after changing donors and and getting a BFP I will be able to do it again soon and that it will not take 10 more tries... i just can't cope with that. I think there are a lot of us who got a BFP after 9 tries. I was headed to IVF as well and if it doesn't work for me after maybe 3 more tries, IVF it is. As much as the fancy clinic may feel like an assembly line, I think monitored IUI cycles are the way to go if you have had that many BFN's.

GOOD LUCK! I am rooting for you!

I'm really sorry to hear about this cycle. BFN after BNF really starts to wear you down, but I hope the Fertility Factory does the trick! Such a bummer that you'd have to switch banks, though. Hope that you find a donor you're comfortable with elsewhere.

Let's both be the Little Mommies-to-be That Could - I think I can, I think I can... :)
