Some bullets, and a shotgun

It's been a busy few weeks in Gayby-land, so I'm resorting to the bullet post.

*A H0nda Acc0rd just won't cut it for 2 adults, 2 infants and 2 dogs so we spent lots of time test driving used cars. We ended up spending a little more than we wanted to because we were able to get a good deal on a Volvo XC70. It feels way too nice to be something I own! As far as station wagons go, it's pretty bad-ass.

*Work is getting busier, at the precise moment I need it to slow down a bit. One of my co-workers just got transferred to another branch, and I am left picking up the slack. I think I could write a whole post on job related stuff.

*We've had lots of appointments with our new lawyer, who is the greatest lawyer ever. He's the one who fought for civil union partners to both be named on the original birth certificate. So cool.

*We're in the process of changing our last names since we want everyone in the family to have the same last name. We didn't want us both to take one of the last names we currently have, because I was worried that it would make one of us seem more dominant than the other. I didn't want ignorant people to think that one of us was the "husband" because we had taken that name. We looked at all sorts of last names in our families going way back. In the end, we decided on my mother's maiden name.

*Elizabeth and I did a little day trip to Connecticut last week and had a shotgun wedding. We decided to get married last Monday, and had the "wedding" last Friday. Even a simple shotgun wedding resulted in a crazy week of planning. Still, we managed to find rings on our meager budged that didn't look like we'd found them next to the patchouli at a head shop, I got a cute summer dress at a maternity consignment shop, and we booked a JP. Our only "witness" was the JP's standard poodle...who is blind in one eye. Our "reception" was just the two of us going out for gelato afterwards.

*I had my 20 week ultrasound. I had been freaking out about it because my OB sent me to the hospital for the scan, since she thought she had noticed a difference in the fluid levels of the 2 babies. It turns out that there was no problem at all. Huge sigh of relief. I didn't peek at all during the between-the-legs shots, so I still do not know what I am having. I hope I can keep up the surprise.

*About 2 weeks ago, I finally started feeling movement that was definitely babies and not digestion. It makes me smile every time. I'm sure my co-workers walk by my desk and wonder why I've got such a silly grin on my face sometimes.

*I have my 22 week scan tomorrow!

Mazel tov!

Sounds suspiciously similar to my elopement with Speedy, sans the one-eyed poodle, and we had Thai food and beer, not gelato. Those were the good old days ;-)

Well, it’s a good thing you updating b/c just this morning I was thinking of prodding you for an update! I was wondering about the fluid scan and hoping all was well.

I’m glad Elizabeth made an honest woman out of you. :) Seriously, we’re considering taking a trip somewhere sometime soon to get hitched, too. Frustrating b/c it won’t matter here, but it kind of seems like a good idea to me. And the wedding sounds amazing. Really, I think getting married w/ a half blind standard poodle as your witness sounds better than some of the Bridezilla nonsense that wedding reality shows are all about.

Kudos for being able to go without learning the genders. I cannot bear not knowing!

LOL...let's see pics of the rings.

Since the poodle only had one eye you're only half married.Hee

Well you HAVE been busy! Congrats on the marriage and the car. Good luck with the name change process, some places really give me a hard time (the DMV especially).

Yay baby movement!

Congratulations on the wedding! Sounds like the perfect day, and a smartly-budgeted one at that. Nice work.
So glad the fluid sitch is okay, and that you're feeling movement! How incredibly fun is that? I still grin like an idiot every time.
Good luck with work--hope things slow down for you.

Baby movement is the best! I love that you're not finding out the sex of the babes:)

Congratulations on the wedding, sounds like a great low key day!

At risk of repeating myself I know, but I can't believe you're 20 weeks already! Well done on not peeking during the scan, I love the idea of not knowing but I just don't think I've got the willpower to do it so I'm impressed.

it's crazy how much planning goes into an elopement these days, isn't it? it looks so easy in the movies.

congratulations! and welcome to the "run for the border" marriage club.

Big congrats on the wedding!!! I'm really happy to hear you were able to make it official.

Your head shop ring comment made me laugh because 10 years ago, Cat and I had rings we picked up at a head shop in Grenich Village during pride. We've since upgraded ;)

So happy the babes are well. At 20w1d I still can't decipher between digestion and baby :( Humpf.

So much exciting stuff going on for you!

I really like what you did with your family names... We couldn;t figure out what to do so we hyphernated ours, since we had the same dilemma about how others would precieve the name thing. And our names could not be morphed into something un-freakish. It didn't even occur to us to consider using one of our other "family" names! Brilliant!

Its wonderful that the babies look great and that you are feeling them move. that is the most amazing thing! Good luck at the 22 week scan! xx
