Oh wow, I'm so sorry. I hope it's treatable at least, although quite an awful thing to go through, for all of you. Sending lots of love and healing thoughts her way.

I’m so sorry to hear about this. I know what you’re going through. My mom was diagnosed w/ breast cancer when I was 18, just a couple of weeks after I graduated high school. I knew when she went in for the biopsy that it could be malignant, but somehow my 18 year old brain never really considered the possibility that it WOULD be. When my sister came down to the lobby where I was to tell me the news, my knees buckled out from underneath me and I fell to my knees and sobbed. I was told repeatedly then – in 1996 – that it was much better to be diagnosed w/ breast cancer in ‘96 than it would have been 5 or 10 or 20 years prior. The treatments and understanding of the disease progresses just that rapidly. Now, of course, it’s much better to be diagnosed in 2010 than it was in 1996. I know as well as anyone that it isn’t “good” to be diagnosed w/ cancer, but I know that the treatment is much better now. My aunt was diagnosed last year, and her treatment protocol was much easier on her body. Different type, maybe, but also better treatment methods. I know that it sucks. And I know that it’s scary. But your mom can beat this.

I am so, so sorry. Please know that treatment can be really good now a days for breast cancer. My mom was diagnosed a few months back as well. She just completed a course of concentrated radiation. It knocked out the cancer as far as we know.
Don't lose your hope. I know it's really hard. I was devastated when I first learned of it with my mom as well.
Sending you a big hug.

oh gayby, i'm so sorry. the others are right...treatment has only gotten better. i visited my aunt yesterday who was recently diagnosed and she just had her 2nd of 4 chemos and is doing very well...in fact still running her dog grooming business on her own. my mom had a double mastectomy at 35 and she's been fine ever since. i'm sending good thoughts your mom's way.

Really sorry to hear this news and hoping like hell that the prognosis is good. One of my best friends received the same diagnosis a week and a half ago but has gone through surgery easily and is well on her way to recovery. I hope the same for your family.

So sorry you are going through this. My mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer, which had spread to her lymphatic system, when I was 17, shortly after my little sister was born. They told her she had 6 months and there was nothing they could do. We got a second opinion and she was rushed into surgery. After a second surgery, she was in remission. She's been there ever since and its been 12 years. I hope your mom's story has a similar ending. Hang in there.
